How to Reign in Life

If you are living a life of defeat, sin, guilt, condemnation, sickness, broken relationships, fears or financial lack you are not experiencing God's will for your life or God's best for you.

Jesus said, I have come that you might have life and life more abundantly. You can not live an abundant life when you are flat on your back in bed, you can not live an abundant life when you are worried and afraid.

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Rom 5:19

The bible says in Rom 5:19 that by one man's offense (Adam), death reigned. But by one mans obedience (Jesus) many are made righteous.

For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Rom 5:17

Because of the cross of Jesus you can receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness. These are the two things necessary to reign in life. Even in church circles when you mention grace many peoples radar goes up and they say... "you gotta be careful about too much grace." But here the bible is clear that it is not just grace but the abundance of grace that enables you to reign in life.

Grace is God's unmerited, undeserved favor. Notice that in verse 19 you see that it was not even "your" obedience but Christ's obedience.

This is contrary to man's way of thinking. We think in order for us to be blessed by God we need to earn it with our obedience and our performance.

The second thing I would like you to notice is that it is the gift of righteousness, not the law of righteousness.

But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone; Rom 9:31-32

Israel tried to seek righteousness in the law but the law is not of faith but of works. You can not receive righteousness by works but only by faith it is a gift of God made possible by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor 5:21

Righteousness is a gift. Many people believe that righteousness is right doing. But that is self effort and self righteousness. Christ's free gift of righteousness will produce right doing but right doing does not produce righteousness. Even in the old testament righteousness came by faith. For Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Hebrews 5:13 says that any one who uses milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness and is still a babe. If you do not understand that righteousness is a gift you are not ready for meat.

Only when you know that you are highly favored by God not because of who you are or what you have done or not done but because of the finished work of Jesus (the Abundance of GRACE) and that you are the righteousness of God in Christ apart from your works (FREE GIFT of RIGHTEOUSNESS), you will reign in life.

Sin will lose its power. Rom 6:14 Even when you fail there will be no more condemnation because you are not walking by self effort (flesh) but by the Spirit. Rom 8:1

When you receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness you will reign in life. And when you reign in life by Christ Jesus, the devil doesn't !!
