What does it mean to continue in sin?

What does it mean to continue in sin?

To find the answer we are going to look at three verses. The 2nd to last verse of Romans 5 and the first two verses of Romans 6. I used to have such a different view of what this meant because I didn't really understand what sin was.

I find that when you understand the definitions, you will understand what the author is saying and it will all make more sense.

Sin is: Trying to find life by the strength of the flesh. A belief unto the flesh for life and favor with God.

The words "the offence" in the first verse we will look at is referring to sin, and it means "where the truth was deviated from".

When sin entered through man (Adam), he adopted the wisdom that said he could have life by the strength of his flesh. God said if you eat of this (wisdom) you will surely die.

So our first verse says:
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: Rom 5:20 KJV

I left out the definition of grace but I will now explain this verse using the Greek definitions and include grace:

Moreover the law entered, so that you might see the wisdom of trying to have life through the strength of your flesh was the thing that was killing you. But the more you saw that enlisting your members to try and find life by the strength of your flesh was what was killing you, You were super abundantly influenced by God beyond your wildest dreams that you could only have His life in you for free. (Rom 5:20 expounded and explained)

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Rom 6:1-2 KJV

What shall we say then? Shall we continue to enlist our members to find life by the strength of our flesh, in order to try and increase God's influence on our heart of His life for free? God forbid; how ridiculous would that be? How shall we that died with Christ to the wisdom of life through the flesh, try to obtain life by the flesh any longer? (Rom 6:1-2 expounded and explained)

Grace & Peace

**A note I feel I should insert is... to continue in sin has nothing to do with saved, not saved. But we can have areas of our lives where we still trust in our own strength instead of resting in the finished work of Jesus.
